Secret to Getting the Most Air Force Weighted Airman Promotion System (WAPS) Cutoff Points
- Exceed your supervision's expectations by learning your job and its responsibilities that will earn you Must Promote evaluations (EPRs) and will lead to 250 promotion points.
- Get involved in community and educational activities outside work that will make you a well rounded airman so you will be recognized for quarterly awards plus decorations and medals - up to 25 promotion points.
- Know your Career Development Course (CDC) and Professional Development Guide inside and out. Some excellent study guides can be purchased from McMillian (http://www.mcmguides.com/) and HDel, Inc (http://www.hdel.com). These study materials are very thorough with flash cards and software which may be sold separately. By mastering this knowledge, you can add up to 200 promotion points. Starting in 2015, you must score at least 40% on each test with a combined score of least 90.
- Get promoted Below The Zone. Doing so will put you six months ahead of your peers and 3 more Time in Grade points than those didn't get this one-time bump.
- With the 2015 promotion year, Time in Grade and Time in Service points will be less significant and eventually will not included in calculating the total WAPS points.
- Also in the 2015 year, Master Sergeant (E6/MSgt) will have a board score that will replace EPR's during the second phase of computing WAPS points. So it is very important to have outstanding EPRS however the bullet points must demonstrate that you can walk on water.
- In 2016, EPRs will be eliminated from calculations for Master and Chief Master Sergeants. For Senior Master Sergeants, it starts in 2017.
